Visiting the Last Blockbuster Video - Cinemassacre

James, Justin, and Kieran traveled to the last Blockbuster Video that's located in Bend, Oregon!! They took a road trip down from Portland, after Portland Retro Gaming Expo weekend October, 2019. The sights, sounds, and smells of their old stomping grounds was like something else. A flash from the past, where you would always go every Friday night to get the newest movie releases, hottest games, or obscure b-movie rentals. Sadly, Blockbuster's 9,000 world-wide locations dwindled down to just one. But, that comes with everything turning digital... or with movies just slapped into the Red Box at your local grocery store. Regardless, the Last Blockbuster in Bend is a tribute to anyone who lived in the 90s, especially with their museum section and classic memorabilia everywhere. Thanks to the owner Sandi for allowing us to film in the store! And, sorry that our audio isn't the best, the store is very active.

  • God, I'd love to visit that Blockbuster. So many memories of just walking around the place and looking at what's available. As great as streaming is, it can't replicate going to the local Blockbuster with your buds to hang out and pick out a movie. Renting a movie was an event. It was one of those things where you call up friends ask if they want to go out and rent a movie. Good times.

I'm sorry for Blockbuster, but the business model has changed : VOD ! Still.... We don't have any blockbuster's shop like this in Europe.... it's pretty sad, but it's the progress and we can't fight it.

  • My wife and I honeymooned in Alaska a couple years ago, and out of everything to see up there we made it a point to stop in at the second last Blockbuster (RIP). We bought a ton of shitty DVDs and each got a hoodie that we wear regularly. Looking back on it, I think our only souvenirs from our honeymoon came from Blockbuster.

  • It's sad to think something that we cherished so much in our youth has basically died and gone away. This brought back lots of memories and even when James said about it bringing back memories of certain walking patterns he would take reminded me of the same that I have long forgot about. I would always go right to the video game section and than the horror sections and check out all the cool artwork on the horror movies, knowing my parents would never let me rent that. Also check out the newer consoles that they had for rent. Its good to look back on these times, and I guess ok to yearn for these days but we are in a world now where anyone can get on their computer or gaming console, or phone and pull up movies with ease and I guess that is something to be happy about as well. Kinda disappointed you didn't rent texas chainsaw or something, but I guess you wanted a movie you could stick in and skip to the end and not care about.

  • Blockbuster did not put small town video stores out of business back then, at least not in L.A. County. There was a Video 94 Cents, Video 99, Citi Video, City Video, basically a video store on every 2 or 3 blocks. Grocery stores had freakin movies, man it feels like a lifetime ago.
