What Happens When A Ball Is Filled With Helium?

For a limited time, get 25% off the ENTIRE TKOR Store: bit.ly/2NnXiVp
In today's video we're filling soccer balls (footballs) with three different gasses- sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), helium, and carbon dioxide. Will the different gasses affect how the balls react?

  • I think the Helium lightens the ball just enough that it can stay in the air slightly longer. Where as the Sf6 added just enough density to maybe make the ball more like a solid object, making it easier for the energy of your kick to pass to the ball, instead of losing some force when the ball bends and reacts to a kick with less Dense air? Just a thought. Tho not using any scientific facts.

  • lets not forget they are dropping the balls for most of the test and air resistance plays less of an effect on drop kicking a ball rather that a stationary kick and as it flies

  • I feel like the difference would be in the force applied to the balls. Like the stronger the force the more distance that the high density sulfur hexaflouride would cover over the helium but with a weak force the lack of density of the helium helps the ball overcome gravity easier.

  • A little late but they really needed to measure distance in the air and not roll distances to determine how much it matters. Heavier balls could potentially absorb more energy and go further but with equal kicks the helium should theoretically go furthest.. cool idea. Something like a American football and throwing distance might be more accurate.. or just build a big slingshot and shoot these balls at 45 and measure aerial distance and maybe even vertical shots straight up.

  • Should of just hit them with a baseball bat probably see more significant changez

    Estrada603Estrada603Month ago
  • My guess, the helium goes farther airborne because it is lighter. The SF6 goes further because the extra mass gives it more momentum to roll further. And air goes shortest because it is between the two extremes for carry distance and roll distance

  • This is the sorriest excuse for a science experiment.. you couldn't even spend the minimum and buy AT LEAST a hose clamp and the right size tubing for the helium.. even mid tier, thats a 1/4 standard thread under the nipple attachment.. even the sulfur hexafluoride bottle.. a cheap regulator is 50 bucks.. low effort, max profits, no care, plug merch. Cool.
